Hacking Online Hate: Building an Evidence Base for Educators
This report synthesises the main research findings of a comprehensive research programme carried out by the SELMA project to achieve a holistic understanding of the online hate speech phenomenon. The research comprises three interrelated components enriching each other: a literature review, a series of qualitative focus groups and an online quantitative survey. How SELMA is driving online change
After two years of collaborative effort to tackle online hate speech, the SELMA project is drawing to a close. This publication draws upon the experiences and successes of the many people who became involved in the project. It features an overview of the SELMA research programme, the SELMA Toolkit, young people and educators engagement, stakeholders involvement, and SELMA partners commitment to continue hacking online hate in the future.
Hacking Online Hate: Insights from the SELMA project
This Final Evaluation Report explores to what extent SELMA activities and outputs were successful in increasing children’s and educators’ awareness, knowledge and skills relating to online hate speech. It presents the results of the SELMA focus groups, which were held with young people and educators to develop and evaluate the SELMA Toolkit, and provides an overview of evaluation data gathered as part of the SELMA training and outreach scheme. Finally, the report outlines the most important dissemination messages which echo the nuanced empirical understanding established through the SELMA project.
